A Trip Down Under: Pt. 3

June 30, 2009

The third and final post in our Post Alley series. Highlighting many of the diverse pieces of art on the wall. The mixture of high fashion ads, graffiti and wheat pastes creates a very interesting collage of different cultures and ideas. One starhead boy and one narboo installment up there.

New addition to this post and this post. Again, I have no idea whether this new installment was done by the same artist, but it seems to go along with the theme of animals/characters on the rest of the wall.

Robot Wars

June 29, 2009

When I was at Artopia i noticed these decorated vehicles and thought that they were really cool. I especially like the robot girl and the fish girl who were on opposite sides of a RV type car.

Wandering Star

June 29, 2009

Starhead Boy is a local artist with numerous stickers around Seattle. These ones are my personal favorite, but he has a large range of others also. You can visit his blog here, or his flickr page here.

Artopia

June 28, 2009

Yesterday I went to Artopia in Georgetown which is “Seattle Weekly’s annual celebration of all local innovative art and emerging talent”. There were many different forms of art from music to comics. I was only able to get pictures of some of the pieces of art, others being too big or just inaccessible. My favorite thing that I was able to take a picture of is the 6-ft tall metal divider that a 300 pound block of ice was set to melt on. For more information on Artopia you can click here

Georgetown

June 28, 2009

Yesterday I was in Georgetown for Artopia. While I was there and walking around I found a black wall covered in really cool art. My favorites are the old man which someone graciously added a tack to and the spray-paint hornet. You can also see some art by Starhead Boy there.

I’ll have more pictures from Artopia up over the next couple of days. For more information on Artopia click here.

Because He’s Just That Cool

June 27, 2009

Even though we post Bald Man stickers with regularity, it’s always good to have a post every once in a while dedicated solely to him. I recently had some contact with the Bald Man and if there is still any confusion, this blog is not written or affiliated with the Bald Man. Also through my contact with him, I should be receiving a few Bald Man stickers, which I am very excited about. The 3rd picture down (the sky blue Bald Man on the dumpster) is one of my favorite pictures we’ve posted so far. The flowers and overall clarity of the photo make it seem like a much better picture than it is. Link to the Bald Man’s Flicker page.

Think Good Thoughts

June 27, 2009

Because were funny people here at Bald Man Is Watching, I decided to include some humor (sort of) into the site. Everyone likes giant squids, depressed desserts and whatever you would call that 3rd one.

A Trip Down Under: Pt. 2

June 27, 2009

Part two of our Post Alley pictures. Something I didn’t mention in the first post about the alley is the way that the light affects the art. It’s under a portion of the market, shrouding many of the wheat-pastes in darkness and shining strange light angles on others. Overall, the light animates much of the wall and makes it feel alive. The collaboration of the figures and characters and more traditional graffiti on the wall also creates a very interesting perspective.

Update Update Update

June 27, 2009

Apparently the faces put up over the Sounders ads on 11th have been claimed by a group called Anarchy Group Rules. Here is a a brief statement from the group written in the comments section of this Slog post.

“Anarchy Group has been covering these faces religiously every other night or so. Nothing personal against the sounders. We just think it is tacky to take advantage of space used for free by local bands and artists to promote shows. (Ag rule #1 don’t be tacky) They have a budget and should advertise on billboards, and buses. Some dorsh bag is making good money marketing on that free space and I don’t want to see the poster space lost to snazzy marketing campaigns. (Ag rule #2 no rules) Anarchy Group has modified the Sounders ad to reflect just how tacky their approach is.

One evening while we were out a man stopped his BMW SUV in the middle of the street to take my picture with his iphone. “There I caught you vandalizing he screamed.” (then drove to Mad Beach to dump his trunk full of six pack rings into Lake Washington) I’ve been wondering where that guy is, or if he saw that I was posting my own face on the wall. How fun would it be to see him rouse a police officer to look at the vandal on his iphone. “Oh yes Mr. Dorsh, we’ll get on that one right away… NOT!”

Baby Is Watching

June 26, 2009

These pictures were all taken in the Downtown/Capitol Hill area, except for the baby picture which was taken in Fremont. I really like the big girl that was just nailed to a pole. The Baldman sticker on the sign welcoming you to Capitol Hill is also very cool.

Black and White

June 25, 2009

I took these pictures a while ago when I was walking home from Downtown. They aren’t really related except for the two Narboo pictures and the fact that they are all in black and white. Narboo is an artist who we’ve seen a lot, and I personally really like his style and technique. There is a lot of his stuff down in Post Alley. I also like the last picture with the skull and bandana reading “Forth Yee Freshmen”.

The Corner

June 25, 2009

23rd and East Union is one of the most interesting and complex intersections in the entire city of Seattle. The Central District is a melting pot of races and cultures all coming together in one condensed area. Currently the area is going through widespread gentrification and the historically African-American neighborhood is now a majority white.

The Corner is an experimental documentary using audio and video from the inhabitants of the Central District. History of the area, thoughts on gentrification, ideas about the future and artistic expression are all shown through the project. Go to The Corner’s website Here . I love the spoken word/rap under the “Rap/Sing/Pray” tab in the upper right hand corner.

Sprawled on the pavement, a statement,
A brothers life is taken,
A community left shaken,
